Summary
In 2004, CNBC's David Faber gave viewers an unprecedented look inside the world's largest retailer in The Age of Wal-Mart (item 39101). Following up five years later, Faber examines Walmart in a much different context - one shaped by increased criticism, an onslaught of lawsuits, and a plummeting stock price, all of which have prompted a quest for re-invention among the highest levels of the company. This CNBC report describes Walmart's realization that it was losing eight percent of its customers due to bad publicity - and how it undertook an extreme makeover of its image and stores. Also explored in the video: political currents running counter to Walmart's low-cost business model, the retailer's growing presence in China, and the controversy over its ongoing U.S. expansion - which some communities have forestalled or even prohibited.
