Summary
A report on facial recognition software designed to apprehend criminals who have been caught on camera committing crimes. The computer algorithms used to identify criminals are not flawless, particularly with minorities and women, and requires strict rules and protocols to prevent improper arrests. Includes interviews with Robert Williams, who was wrongfully arrested due to facial recognition software; Melissa Williams, wife of Robert Williams; James Craig, Detroit Chief of Police; Clare Garvie, a lawyer at Georgetown's Center on Privacy and Technology; Patrick Grother, a computer scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology; and Nijeer Parks, who was wrongfully arrested due to facial recognition software.
