The last time the state of New Mexico executed someone was 1960 when David Cooper Nelson was put to death in the gas chamber. As the death penalty faces great scrutiny throughout the nation, in Focus will examine the arguments for and against capital punishment and find out why New Mexico's death chamber has reopened after 41 years. Then in the second half of the show, Arcie Chapa will talk to David Iglesias, the new U.S. Attorney for New Mexico. Iglesias' work as a Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) court-martial became the basis for the movie "A Few Good Men," and Tom Cruise's performance in that movie, and now Iglesias will be the top federal lawyer in New Mexico. Host: Arcie Chapa. Guests: Art Riffenburgh (Retired Law Enforcement Officer), Michelle Giger (Murder Victims Families for Reconciliation), Kari Brandenburg (Bernalillo Country, District Attorney), Michael Cox (New Mexico Attorney General's Office), David Iglesias (U.S. Attorney for New Mexico).
